Bluesky, the Twitter (X) alternative that has only recruited users by invitation until now, is now turning into a platform that can be used by everyone. This means that there will be no need for invitations and anyone who wishes can become a member of the system. It has been talked about for a while that the platform will be open to the public, and now we can say that a step has been taken in this regard.

Bluesky was opened in the spring of last year and has reached nearly 3 million users to date, even though purchases are made only by invitation. Although this number seems quite low, there may be a rapid increase in the number of Bluesky users now that the platform is opened to everyone.

Some problems, especially in platforms such as X, may cause people to turn to such platforms from time to time. In short, considering both Bluesky becoming public and a possible crisis in X, the number of users of the platform will increase.

“We really believe that the social future should be open and decentralized. We think that’s good for public conversations in general,” Bluesky CEO Jay Graber said.

Although Bluesky may seem like X at first, the platform attracts attention for a different reason. Because the company started as a project that aimed to create a decentralized infrastructure for social networks within X, called the AT Protocol. As a decentralized platform, Bluesky’s code is completely open source, providing transparency to people outside the company about what is built and how. Developers can even write their own code on top of the AT Protocol, creating anything from a custom algorithm to a completely new social platform.
